<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique for allowing a user to easily obtain a method for applying appropriate pressure on a manuscript. <P>SOLUTION: A reading device reads a book manuscript 30 placed on a placement part 12 in a spread state, determines the position of the float portion in the book manuscript 30 floating from the placement part 12, based on the obtained read data, and reports the position.
