<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a lithium secondary battery, which has a high heat resistance, and a good battery property, and suppresses the deterioration of the battery owing to the decomposition of its electrolytic solution. <P>SOLUTION: A separator for a lithium secondary battery comprises: a porous base material; and a porous layer containing an insulative inorganic filler and provided on at least one face of the porous base material. The porous layer contains: at least one kind of aluminum-based inorganic compound (A) selected from among aluminum oxide, aluminum hydroxide, and aluminum hydroxide oxide; and at least one kind of magnesium-based inorganic compound (B) selected from among magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide.
