<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short arc type discharge lamp in which the initial discharge breakdown voltage can be maintained even when the tip of a cathode is consumed and the tip shape is changed due to long time lighting of the lamp. <P>SOLUTION: In the short arc type discharge lamp where an anode and a cathode are arranged opposite one another in a luminous tube, the cathode has a part tapered toward the tip. A recess is provided in the tapered part, and a metallic body projecting from the surface of the tapered part is provided in the recess. At least one corner is provided at the tip of the metallic body, and the distance between the tip of the metallic body and the tip of the anode is longer than the distance between the cathode and the anode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
