<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device in which the concentration of stress to a microcapsule for display is reduced, and a manufacturing method for the electrophoretic display device. <P>SOLUTION: An electrophoretic display device includes: a plurality of first electrodes; a second electrode facing the plurality of first electrodes; a plurality of microcapsules held between the plurality of first electrodes and the second electrode and each including charged electrophoretic particles; and an insulator disposed between the plurality of first electrodes. The surface of each of the plurality of first electrodes, which faces the second electrode, is located closer to the second electrode side than the surface of the insulator that faces the second electrode.
