Platinum and palladium compounds with geometrically distorted charge transfer state, applications and methods for the preparation thereof. The compounds are capable of emitting light and can be used in light emitting devices. The emission of compounds can be tuned from the ultraviolet to nearinfrared, by modifying the ligand structure. Emissions can emit light over a range of from about 400 nm to about 700 nm. The compounds have improved stability and efficiency over traditional emission complexes, can be useful as luminescent labels in, for example, bioapplications, anti-cancer agents, emitters in organic light emitting diodes (OLED), compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), light emitting diodes (LED), incandescent lamps, and combinations thereof. |
