The method involves storing heat transfer oil (2) in containment (1) of a light-water reactor of an inoperative nuclear power plant. The heat transfer oil is heated by electric energy and is cooled for generation of steam. The moisture generated exterior to the containment is converted into electric energy by a steam turbine (25) and a generator (26) associated with the inoperative nuclear power plant. An independent claim is also included for a device for thermal storage of electric energy.
