<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the fusion of transfer residual toner to an image carrier, increase longevity of the image carrier, and reduce power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus transfers a toner image on an image carrier rotationally driven by drive means to a transferred body at a transfer position followed by fixing the image with heat by a fixing device. The image forming apparatus comprises cleaning means provided on the rotation path of the image carrier and removing transfer residual toner, acquires information indicating a density distribution state of the transfer residual toner in a section between the transfer position on the image carrier and just before a cleaning position by the cleaning means, determines, according to the information, whether or not the density of the transfer residual toner in an area including at least a rear end part of a distribution area of the transfer residual toner is over an estimated density threshold related to the generation of fusion of the transfer residual toner (S503), and in a case where it is not over (S503:YES), when finishing one image forming job, stops the drive means when a rear end part of an area where the transfer residual toner is adhered moves to a predetermined position within the section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
