The invention relates to a device and a method for detecting and/or quantifying organic compounds present in a gas. Said device comprises a block protected from the light, for identifying and detecting said organic compound, a device for the transduction, into electrical information, of the information emitted by the identification and detection device, a gas inlet, a device for the pre-treatment and purification of the gas entering via the inlet, a module for the acquisition and processing of the electric signal emitted by the information transduction device, an energy source, and a visual and sound warning system. The invention can be applied to the field of detection and/or quantification of organic compounds, especially organophosphorated compounds.
