Skin care compositions comprising certain substituted phenethylamines, which are particularly beneficial for skin lightening and achieving evenness of color, especially for face and underarm skin. The compositions comprise 0.001% to 20% of a subtituted monoamine of structure (I) wherein R, is cyclohexyl, pheryl or mono - or di-substituted phenyl substituted by C1-C5 alkyl, C1-C5 alkoxy or phenoxy and R2 is hydrogen or methyl.
