786,503. Lamps. CARR FASTENER CO., Ltd. Oct. 27, 1955 [Dec. 1, 1954], No. 34862/54. Class 75(4) A translucent or transparent synthetic plastic cover 1 for a lamp comprises a resilient hollow shank 5 integrally 'extending from one face of a lens portion 4 and having adjacent the end remote from the lens a peripheral outwardly extending ridge 6 which tapers inwardly towards the remote end, the shank being adapted to make snap-fastening engagement in an aperture in a support such as a panel 3 or a lampholder. The remote end of the shank has axial slots 10 dividing the shank into fingers 11; or the slots 10 may terminate short of the end of the shank. The diameter of the shank is equal to or slightly greater than that of the aperture. When the shank is pushed through the aperture from the front of the panel the fingers 11 are deformed until the ridge 6 clears the aperture. The fingers then spring outwardly and the panel is gripped between the rear peripheral surface 9 of the lens and the ridge 5. A key portion 12 on the shank co-operates with a radial groove 13 in the edge of the aperture. The lens may have a metal surround. A lampholder with which the cover engages comprises a tubular body having a forward neck of reduced diameter having a length equal to the length of the shank between the ridge 6 and the lens. The ridge engages behind the shoulder formed between the reduced neck and the main body of the lampholder. |
