790,388. Rotary pumps. HOBOURNEATON MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Oct. 13, 1955 [May 18, 1955], No. 29192/55. Class 110(2). A rotary pump, Fig. 1, of the n and n+1 lobe type for actuating the power steering device 14 of a motor vehicle is provided with arcuate inlet and discharge ports which communicate with a reservoir 12 carried by said pump, a strainer 37 and a flow directing tube 38a being incorporated in the circuit as shown, together with a control valve 40, see Fig. 4. The valve 40 is formed integral with the cover of the pump and controls the by-pass of oil from the outlet 19b of the pump to the inlet 20b thereof in excess of a predetermined maximum regardless of the speed at which the pump is driven. The valve construction is such that an increased delivery results in a pressure differential across the variable orifice disposed between the members 49, 49a, thereby moving the valve assembly to the left against the action of the spring 54 to establish communication between the ports 20b and 19b.
