A security system for electronic account access, e.g. online banking, comprising a user account managed by a service provider wherein access to said user account over a network is provided by a host such that a plurality of communications devices, typically including a smart phone or other mobile device, can control aspects of the account over the network by supplying a first set of account identification data to the host, the user account having an active status in which new interactions with the user account by the communication devices are permitted and an inactive status wherein new interactions are inhibited by the host, e.g. a bank account or credit card is locked or frozen. The system also comprising a data store having the first sets of account identification data stored thereon and an identifier for each of the user accounts such that transmission of the identifier by a user communication device can switch the associated user account at the host between the active and inactive states. |
