<p>The invention relates to neural network biosensors. A biosensor substrate is disclosed that has a surface adapted for culturing neuronal cells in cluster form and comprises means for monitoring and/or stimulating the electrical activity of the cells (20). The sensor substrate (11) has a structured surface with a predetermined pattern comprising spatially organised cytophilic pads (12, 14, 16, 18) of controlled size for culturing neuronal cell clusters. The cytophilic pads (12, 14, 16, 18) exhibit a size distribution comprising a predetermined number of distinct size classes that is not less than four, each size class corresponding to a given range of cytophilic pad area; and the cytophilic pad area between two next size classes is increased by a factor of four or more.</p> |
