<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information reader which enlarges a contrast ratio irrespective of a direction to which a bar code image is subjected to light and as a result, favorably performs read processing of the bar code. <P>SOLUTION: A bar code reader 20 includes a configuration to detect a tilt angle of a bar code image relative to a pixel string of a light receiving sensor concerned when bar code image receives light to a light receiving sensor, and while setting up an addition are AR' along a bar arrangement direction based on the detected tilt angle, defines an addition line along the bar direction in the addition area AR' based on the tilt angle concerned respectively.
