The device (1) has a supporting unit i.e. roller (10), for supporting a plastic band(20). A link chain (11) is equipped with a picot for driving the band. An idler wheel (12) is provided in the chain for conveying the chain relative to the band. The idler wheel is arranged with respect to the supporting unit such that a positive displacement exists between a rotational axis of the idler wheel and a rotational axis of the supporting unit along a rotational direction of the band. A counter support unit is formed by the idler wheel.
