A lid for a container comprises a sealing assembly including a frame 76 defining an aperture 78 and having engagement means 80 for repeatedly engaging the container e.g. a channel 86 for snap fitting with a rim, the assembly further including a sealing plastics film 94 attached to the frame e.g. by means of a lip 82 to cover the aperture, a cover 96 of paperboard or plastics material covering the sealing layer and being releasably secured to the sealing assembly e.g. to the sealing layer by a peelable adhesive or being retained in a groove in the frame. Also claimed a container having such a lid comprising an outer paperboard or plastics shell having a base, side wall and opening and an inner lining comprising a thin sheet of plastics material, a first part being adhered to a base and side wall of the shell and a second part conforming to an external surface of the shell around the opening. The cover may include a tab (98, Figure 7) to aid in removal. The container may be for hazardous liquid e.g. paint, varnish, adhesive, filler, cosmetics, foodstuff or putty. The cover and shell can be separated for recycling. |
