PURPOSE: A constant off time boost converter is provided to maintain a switching frequency at light load conditions by providing a consistent switching frequency over a wide load range using a converter topology. CONSTITUTION: A voltage converter(100) includes a first and second converter switches(101,102), a controller(103), an inductor(104) and a current sensor. The voltage converter provides power to a load(106) The voltage converter includes a load capacitor(107). The controller provides commands to the first and second converter switches to initiate current through the inductor and the load. The first converter switch is not conducting the inductor from ground, herein referred to as the "off-time" of the converter.
