PURPOSE: A secondary battery is provided to improve strength of a cap plate by varying thicknesses of a cap plate and a case region which is easily deformable by an external force. CONSTITUTION: A secondary battery comprises: an electrode assembly(110) comprising a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator inserted between a first and a second electrode plates; a first and a second current plate(121,131) electrically connected to each of the first and the second electrode plates; a case(140) for accepting the electrode assembly and the first and the second electrode plates; and a cap plate(151) closing the case in order to seal the electrode assembly, the case, and the current collector. In order to form thicknesses of a center part and both side parts of the cap plate different each other, a reinforcing stepped portions(S) is formed in the cap plate.
