FIELD: process engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in making car body posts. Flat welded workpiece comprises first steel sheet 3 welded to second steel sheet 4 by seam 6b. Both steel sheets are hardened together with said weld seam. Workpiece has thickening 7 in weld seam area caused by cut-out of welded sheets. Car body central post 1 comprises reinforcing element 2 made of aforesaid workpiece. Both steel sheets may be made from hot-rolled or cold-rolled steel with ultimate extension strength of, at least, 800 MPa. Two sheets 3, 4 are welded together by seam 7. Flat welded workpiece is annealed and subjected to hot deformation, hardened and cut to make thickening 7 in welded seam area. ^ EFFECT: higher strength. ^ 26 cl, 2 dwg |
