The structure has a frame including two lateral reinforcements (100), where each reinforcement has an internal recess (100a) and an external recess (100b) directed toward a passenger compartment and an exterior of a vehicle, respectively. A fixation unit fixes a metallic retaining cross-piece (6) on the internal recess of the reinforcement. The unit comprises a fastener (7) placed in each reinforcement to absorb efforts subjected by the cross-piece during impacts caused by projected luggage and to transmit the efforts toward the external recess. The fastener is in the form of a spacer.
