PURPOSE: An air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to control the capacity of a compressor by operating a switch formed in a control signal input unit. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises an indoor unit, an outdoor unit, a control signal input unit, and a contact controller(200). The outdoor unit is connected to the indoor unit. The control signal input unit comprises a display unit. . The display unit displays a control state corresponding to the control signals by outputting control signals. When the contact controller is communicably connected to the outdoor unit, the contact controller controls the capacity of a compressor by transmitting a control value determined by the control signals. The information on the control state comprises the capacity of the compressor and an operating state of the outdoor unit. The control signal input unit comprises switches, which change the control signals.
