Polyamide articles are made by moulding a polyamide through which is distributed a phenyl phosphinate of the general formula <FORM:0797038/IV (a)/1> where M is an alkali metal and R, R1 and R11 are hydrogen atoms or methyl groups. The phenyl phosphinate is preferably used within the range of 0.005 to 2 per cent by weight based on the polyamide. Specified phenyl phosphinates are the sodium, potassium and lithium phosphinates. In the Examples (1) and (2) hexamethylene diammonium adipate salt solution, (3) tetramethylene diammonium sebacate salt solution are concentrated, sodium phenyl phosphinate added and condensed in an autoclave, the resultant polyamide being powdered and injection moulded. Fillers, plasticizers, pigments and dyes may also be present. Specifications 461,236 and 461,237, [both in Group IV], are referred to.
