The rear axle comprises two longitudinal arms (11) for coupling to vehicle body, and a cross bar (15) which connects the arms. The cross bar is tensioned between the ends (16) against the forward direction of travel of the motor vehicle. The space formed along the longitudinal center axis (C) of one of the longitudinal arms and the cross beam is set as a free space.
