<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid enlargement of a connector. <P>SOLUTION: An opening 36, from which a pair of terminal fittings 50 are exposed, is formed on a surface of a housing 20. A fitting detection member 70 can move between a retreating position and a detection position along the surface of the housing 20. A short terminal mounting part 85, to which a short terminal 60 is mounted, is formed on the fitting detection member 70. The short terminal 60 holds a pair of the terminal fittings 50 under a short-circuit condition, and cancels the short-circuit condition of both of the terminal fittings 50 when both of the housings 10, 100 are normally fitted and the fitting detection member 70 reaches the detection position. The fitting detection member 70 is arranged at a height position overlaid on a flexion space of a lock arm 40 between the housing 20 and the lock arm 40.
