<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing acetaldehyde from acetic acid with high selectivity in a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: The method for selectively producing acetaldehyde from acetic acid comprises hydrogenating acetic acid in the presence of hydrogen on a hydrogenation catalyst comprising at least one metal chosen from the group consisting of iron, copper, gold, platinum, palladium and ruthenium supported on an appropriate catalyst support. In one embodiment, acetaldehyde is selectively produced by reacting acetic acid with hydrogen on platinum or iron supported on a silica in a gas phase at around 300°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
