The invention relates to a method for adjusting the clamping force applied by a parking brake, said clamping force being at least partially produced by an electromotive braking device provided with an electromotive brake motor. In order to check the plausibility of the electromechanical clamping force of the brake motor which is to be adjusted, an actual clamping force characteristic is determined and compared, at least in parts, to a desired characteristic range which is defined by the desired characteristics of the clamping force for brake linings in different states of wear and tear.
