<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device capable of improving response upon the start on a gradient road. <P>SOLUTION: Upon the start from a vehicle stop state, for increasing drive torque of a power source on the basis of a predetermined increase proportion, when a detected road gradient is a prescribed value or more, when a state in which a vehicle speed is substantially zero continues for a predetermined time or more, and when a target drive torque is equal to or more than a gradient load torque equivalent value or more, the increase proportion of the target drive torque is changed to a gradient road increase proportion larger than the predetermined increase proportion on a flat road.
