<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide imaging means capable of reducing blurring of a main subject even when the main subject moves in the photographic screen in any direction. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic camera includes: an imaging part; a recognition part; a setting part; a motion amount detection part; a determination part; and an acquisition part. The imaging part shoots a subject image from a photographic optical system and acquires an image. The recognition part recognizes a main subject from the image. The setting part sets a plurality of observation areas in the main subject area in order to detect the movement of the main subject that moves in the photographic screen in any direction. The motion amount detection part detects the motion amount for each observation area based on a plurality of images acquired in time sequence. The determination part determines the movement status of the main subject based on the motion amount for each observation area.
