<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge type surge absorption element with high withstand voltage, without using sulfur hexafluoride gas as discharge gas. <P>SOLUTION: A discharge type surge absorption element 001 includes a pair of discharge electrodes 003, 003 and a trigger discharge member 004 which are sealed in a sealed package 002 together with discharge gas, the pair of discharge electrodes being arranged to face with each other with a discharge gap 005 therebetween, and the trigger discharge member including a conductive coat 012 which is arranged to face each of the discharge electrodes 003, 003 with a micro discharge gap 015 therebetween.
