PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article of footwear that helps to build up physical strength by properly balancing muscle power of the entire body by merely walking, and also to provide an insole for the footwear.

SOLUTION: In the article of footwear and the insole 1 for the footwear having a step portion 2 formed in an intermediate part from the arch to the toes and having a step portion 3 formed in a portion on the heel side; the step portion 2 formed in the intermediate part of the arch and the toes is such that the outer step portion where the little toe side is situated is formed in balance or imbalance with the inner step portion where the big toe side is situated, while the step portion on the heel side is formed such that the outer step portion where the little toe side is situated is formed in balance with the inner step portion where the big toe side is situated.
