摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an impact-resistant structure for an automobile instrument panel which improves merchantability of an instrument panel by a soft layer and reduces the probability that interior components mounted on the instrument panel are broken by an impact load. <P>SOLUTION: The impact-resistant structure 10 is configured such that the surface of a base material 22 of an instrument panel 12 is covered with a dilatant soft layer 24 made of a material having dilatant properties. The dilatant soft layer 24 is arranged adjacent to a cluster 14 (an interior component) fitted in a component mounting opening 20. The dilatant soft layer 24 is usually soft, thereby improving merchantability of the instrument panel 12. When a collision object 26 collides with the instrument panel 12, the dilatant soft layer 24 instantaneously becomes stiff, thereby suppressing concentration of a collision load on the cluster 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
