<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily achieve hot standby without changing any existing application. <P>SOLUTION: The cluster system includes: AP execution parts 13 and 23 for executing an application; transfer parts 12 and 22 for controlling the transfer of data between a client terminal C and the AP execution parts; I/O parts 14 and 24 for controlling the I/O of data between the AP execution parts and a storage device D; and control parts 11 and 21 for controlling the status of each part. In a normal operation, the control part 11 sets all the statuses of the AP execution part 13, the transfer part 12 and the I/O part 13 to active, and the control part 21 sets the status of the AP execution part 23 to active, and sets the statuses of the transfer part 22 and the I/O part 24 to standby.
