The invention provides an in vitro method for predicting whether a patient affected with a viral hepatitis will cure spontaneously, or whether a patient affected with a viral hepatitis will be responsive to an antiviral hepatitis treatment, which method comprises determining the level of TGF-?ß produced by T cells that are specific for the hepatitis virus and/or the level of T cells that are specific for the hepatitis virus and produce TGF-?ß, in a biological sample from the patient.
