<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method that can achieve pixel interpolation with high precision. <P>SOLUTION: The device includes a periodicity decision part 30 which decides whether an image area including a pixel to be interpolated is a periodic area; a first pixel value generation part 31 which generates a pixel value by a first interpolation method; a second pixel value generation part 32 which generates a pixel value by a second interpolation method; a control part 33 which determines which pixel value generation part is used according to a decision result of the periodicity decision part 30; and a pixel value insertion part 34 which inserts a pixel value generated by the pixel value generation part determined by the control part 33 into the pixel. The first interpolation method is a pattern matching method, and the first pixel value generation part 31 generates a basic pattern including the pixel to be interpolated using a calculated variation period, rotates the basic pattern to generate one or more rotation patterns, and uses those patterns as templates to search for a similar pattern in an image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
