<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new physiologically active substance containing ascophyllan derived from Ascophyllum-nodosum which is highly safe with eaten experience as an active ingredient, and to provide a pharmaceutical composition, food, feed and a cosmetic including the same. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided an immunopotentiator containing as an active ingredient, ascophyllan which is a sulfated polysaccharide containing D-glucronic acid as a main component other than L-fucose and D-xylose, and which is extracted from Ascophyllum-nodosum which is one kind of brown algae, and having production inducing ability of induction type nitrogen monoxide synthetase (i-NOS) in macrophage, and antitumor activity to a solid cancer such as sarcoma, or the like.
