An occupant protection system is provided with a pressure sensor (31) for detecting the pressure in a space (S) formed in close vicinity of the inner side of an exterior member of a vehicle, and an occupant protection device (20) for protecting an occupant inside the vehicle's interior. An electronic control unit (10) determines that a collision has occurred when the pressure and the amount of change in the pressure per unit time each satisfy a collision condition, and operates the occupant protection device (20). In this case, the collision condition is set such that the determination that the collision has occurred is not made unless the amount of change in the pressure per unit time becomes larger as the pressure becomes smaller.
