<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm, when a second HDD is newly attached in a state where a first HDD has already been attached, whether the newly attached HDD satisfies a predetermined criterion while preventing data from being written in the newly attached HDD. <P>SOLUTION: An initial rebuild function is set to OFF (S104). A disk array apparatus 200 is shifted from a single mode to a mirroring mode (S105). The model number of a newly attached HDD is acquired (S106). It is determined whether the newly attached HDD satisfies a criterion for being used in an MFP 1 (S107).
