<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device of an elevator provided with a detection device which hardly causes the eccentricity and breakage and can easily detect an object to be detected even when the object to be detected passing through a platform is flat along the lateral direction. <P>SOLUTION: The safety device 50 includes a multi-beam sensor 51 and a controller 60, wherein the multi-beam sensor 51 comprises a projector 52 which is installed on an elevation path wall A of the upper side than the uppermost floor and projects infrared ray beam which runs through the platform P and a light receptor 53 which is installed on the elevation path wall A of the lower side than the lowermost floor and receives infrared ray beam projected from the projector 52 to construct a projector/receptor pair.
