INSULATING BOOT FOR ELECTROSURGICAL FORCEPS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electrosurgical instruments with a flexible insulating boot that both permits pivoting and other associated movements of jaw members and also reduces the potential for stray or miscellaneous currents affecting surrounding tissue.

SOLUTION: An electrosurgical forceps 10 includes: a shaft 12 having a pair of jaw members at the distal end; a movable handle 40 for actuating a driving assembly to move the jaw members to each other; and a flexible insulating boot 500 disposed at least on a part of the outer surface of at least one jaw member, wherein at least one of the jaw members is adapted for connection to an electric energy source so that at least one jaw member can transmit energy to tissue held between the jaw members.
