<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve focus adjustment accuracy with less system load by using a pixel in which pupil is divided. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: an imager (103) having a plurality of division pixels in which pupil is divided into a plurality of pupil areas, and able to add and read electric charges by pupil dividing each division pixel horizontally and vertically; a pixel analyzing part (107) configured such that based on an image signal for each pixel, an image edge direction is determined for each of division areas into which the area of the imager is divided; an instruction information generation part (108) configured such that based on the determined edge direction, the horizontal or vertical direction is determined as a pupil division direction for each division area; an imager drive part (104) configured such that division pixels are added and read by dividing it in the determined pupil division direction and the imager is controlled so that a pair of image signals are output; and focus adjusting means (102, 109, and 110) for adjusting focus based on the phase difference of the pair of image signals output from each division pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
