PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring particle size distribution of alumina inclusions dispersed in a steel material by using a spark discharge type emission spectrophotometric analysis method simply as compared with a conventional method.
SOLUTION: In a particle size distribution measuring method of alumina inclusions in a metal, emission is spectrometrically measured by generating spark discharge of many times between a metal sample and a counter electrode in inert gas atmosphere, emission intensity values of inherent spectral lines of O, Al and Fe are measured in each electric discharge, and emission intensity ratios of O/Fe and Al/Fe are calculated. A standard deviation (σ) to be a statistical value of O/Fe emission intensity ratios and a center value of Al/Fe emission intensity ratios of total discharge are found out, electric discharge of 3σ and more of the O/Fe emission intensity ratio and electric discharge in which a value obtained by subtracting the center value of the Al/Fe emission intensity ratios of total discharge from the Al/Fe emission intensity ratio is positive is regarded as electric discharge caused by alumina, the particle size of the alumina inclusions is found out from the value obtained by subtracting the center value of the Al/Fe emission intensity ratios from the Al/Fe emission intensity ratio, and particle size distribution of alumina inclusions existing in the metal material is obtained.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
