DESCRIBED IS A METHOD OF MANUFACTURING ETHYLENE OXIDE USING A HIGH SELECTIVITY EPOXIDATION CATALYST. THE METHOD INCLUDES OPERATING AN ETHYLENE OXIDE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM THAT COMPRISES AN EPOXIDATION REACTOR SYSTEM, AN ETHYLENE OXIDE RECOVERY SYSTEM, AND A CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL SYSTEM THAT ARE OPERATIVELY CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE PARTIAL OXIDATION OF ETHYLENE WITH OXYGEN TO YIELD ETHYLENE OXIDE AND THE RECOVERY OF ETHYLENE OXIDE PRODUCT. TO PROVIDE FOR A LOW CARBON DIOXIDE CONCENTRATION IN AN EPOXIDATION REACTOR FEED, A SUBSTANTIAL PROPORTION OF THE ETHYLENE OXIDE RECOVERY SYSTEM CARBON DIOXIDE CONTAINING GASEOUS PRODUCT OF FROM AT LEAST 30 PERCENT UPWARDLY TO 100 PERCENT IS FED TO THE CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL SYSTEM WHICH YIELDS A CARBON DIOXIDE DEPLETED GAS STREAM. THE CARBON DIOXIDE DEPLETED GAS STREAM IS COMBINED WITH OXYGEN AND ETHYLENE TO PROVIDE THE EPOXIDATION REACTOR FEED. |
