804,705. Regulating fluid flow. HAYS MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 14, 1956, No. 24861/56. Class 135. A flow control device comprises a hollow body having an inlet 2 and containing an annular surface 9 with a symmetrical diametral niche facing the inlet 2, and a block 8 of resilient material co-operating with the surface 9 to form a flow passage the cross-section of which is diminished by deformation of the block 8 under compression in proportion to the pressure of the fluid acting thereon. The hollow body comprises two screw-connected aperture members 1, 11, the surface 9 being formed on the member 11 and consisting of surface elements or facets 30, 31, 32, 33 of gradually increasing slope towards the niche. The slopes of these elements together conform to a desired flow characteristic curve. The block 8 has a conical upper surface 41 rounded off at the apex and is guided by integrally formed ribs 10. A downward protrusion 46 helps to centre the block. In a modification, the two body parts are connected by a flanged nut and the surface 9 is formed on a separate partition member held against a shoulder in one of the body parts by a spacer ring and a washer.
