The method involves defining and storing a geometrical data, particularly data concerning the spatial dimensions, the position and volume of the restoration portion to form a virtual restoration portion. The virtual restoration portion is stored as color data by providing data of the replaced tooth (10) or an adjacent tooth or a tooth stump for the tooth to be replaced. The data for generating the virtual restoration portion is generated from the geometrical data by applying the aforementioned color data. An independent claim is also included for a computer-aided design device for generating a dental restoration portion.
