The method involves positioning a lock (8) on an opening (4) of a vehicle. A pre-positioning tool (25) is mounted in the lock, where the pre-positioning tool includes a striker indexing unit for pre-positioning a striker (7) with respect to the lock. The striker is engaged with the lock by pre-positioning of the striker relative to the lock, in a predetermined position by the indexing unit. The opening is closed. The pre-positioned striker is mounted on a body of the vehicle. The opening is re-positioned, and the pre-positioning tool of the lock is dismantled. An independent claim is also included for a tool for adjustably mounting a striker-lock assembly on an opening and a body of a vehicle.
