A level of power steering (28) is controlled by taking into account a reference speed (26), which is highest of values of the vehicle speed and nominal speed, where the level of power steering forms a decreasing function compared to the reference speed, and the level of power steering control varies between 100 and 30 percent of maximum torque. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle.
