FIELD: physics. ^ SUBSTANCE: after collecting samples from water supply sources, a tracer - uranium-232 is added and natural uranium is purified from alpha-active isotopes of radium and thorium. Further, uranium is electrochemically deposited onto a stainless steel disc, followed by alpha-spectrometric determination of the amount of tracer - the ratio of alpha-active isotopes uranium-234 and uranium-238, i.e. y=234U/238U.
