<p><PICT:0810373/III/1> Petroleum oils such as diesel oil or heavy naphtha are cracked in a chamber, which is externally-heated to maintain it at about 700 DEG C., the oil being injected with steam under pressure into the chamber in long narrow jets from injectors 4, 5, arranged in one of the walls of the chamber in such a way as to avoid contact of the jets with the side walls of the chamber and to cause intensive circulation of the gases in the chamber, whereby the deposition of carbon on the walls of the chamber is obviated. The apparatus may be used for the production of domestic and industrial gases (see Group XII), which are discharged via outlet 3. The injectors are preferably of the type disclosed in Specification 810,374, [Group XXVIII].</p> |
