Shaped structural components formed from sintered glass powder are impregnated with a solution of an unsaturated polyester resin in a liquid monomer containing a terminal CH2 = C < group, and the resin is cured in known manner. The impregnation is preferably effected under vacuum. Specified impregnants are a polyester from maleic acid and ethylene glycol, styrene as solvent, peroxides as catalysts and cobalt as activator. Uses.-Floor and wall slabs; bricks; electrical insulators; pipe sections.
