A straw dispenser comprises a chamber 1 in which the straws are held substantially vertical, the chamber floor 15 being conical so that straws move down towards a rotary agitator 17 having a bore 19 through which an element 26 rises to push the central straw above the others to enable it to be readily grasped. The element 26 is carried on a flexible strip 24 moved in a channel 23 by a lever 27, 28. The strip 24 has a twisted portion 34 passing through a slot in a member 21 secured to the agitator so that as the strip is pushed upwards by movement of the lever, the portion 34 causes rotation of the agitator. The agitator has fins 18, Fig. 3 (not shown), on its upper conical surface which stir the straws, and has a pin 35 attached to a spring 36, the latter damping the movement of the agitator and assisting its return to its initial position. The member 26 is returned by return movement of the lever under the influence of a spring 31. As a straw is raised, it pushes apart flexible lips 41 in the top 38 of the chamber 1, this member being of plastic. The lips retain the straw in the raised position.</p> |
